Ogijima Pavilion

This project was realized as a collaboration with artist Oscar Oiwa for the Setouchi Triennale 2022. The site is located on a hilltop overlooking the sea on Ogijima, an island in the central Seto Inland Sea. The structure is composed of columns and double beams made using paper tubes. The ceiling, designed to express a delicate aesthetic reminiscent of a bamboo ceiling, is made of a paper tube ceiling, where thin paper tubes are laid out in a grid.

On the three large sliding windows, Oiwa painted images that blend with the real scenery visible through the windows. Each window features a unique painting, and when all three overlap, a new composite image emerges.


本プロジェクトは『瀬戸内国際芸術祭 2022』にて、アーティストの大岩オスカールとのコラボレーションで実現した。敷地は瀬戸内海中部に位置する男木島の、海を見下ろす高台にあり、建物は柱と二重梁を紙管で構成している。天井は竹天井のような繊細な表現とするために、細い紙管を敷き詰めた紙管天井とした。

3枚の大きな引違い窓には、大岩オスカールにより窓から見える実際の風景と重なる絵が描かれた。それぞれの窓に描かれた絵は、3枚が重なることで新たな絵が出現する仕掛けとなっている。
